Many new iPad owners are finding that their Wi-Fi connectivity isn't always connected. Although Apple does acknowledge there is indeed a connectivity problem, the official fix won't be forthcoming until Apple does a software update.

If you are having any of the problems listed below, then your iPad is one of the ones that needs the software update:

1. Failure to rejoin a known network when waking from sleep mode,
2. Weak signal, total lack of signal despite being within close proximity to router, and
3. Disrupted streaming video even when Wi-Fi signal is strong and other iPad applications are working without issue.

Here are some fixes you can try yourself - hopefully one of them will work long enough to keep you connected until Apple's updated software is released.

Before you connect to your home wireless network, run an update of your routers firmware to make sure it is the latest version.

While high screen brightness usually isn't a good idea, in this case, increasing your brightness may help your unit get connected when it wakes up from sleep.

While most routers can operate on many standards, set your router to operate just on 802.11n which is the iPad standard. While you are doing that add a custom tag to identify your different networks.
For example: Add a G to the 802.11b/g network name and an N to the 802.11n network name.

And last but not least, switch from WPA/WPA2 or WEP encryption to a different setting.

And keep your fingers crossed that one of these tricks works for you.
